Disabled children in school: how are transport costs covered?

The method of covering your transport costs varies depending on whether your child is attending school in a establishment of the medical-educational sector (e.g. in a medical-educational institute) or in a regular school (public or private):

Establishment of the medical-educational sector

The transport costs are included in the day price from your child's institution. They are fully covered by the Health Insurance.

"Ordinary" school

Transportation costs can be refunded. Reimbursement depends on the mode of transport used:

You use your vehicle to accompany your child

Reimbursement of your expenses is based on a rate set by the department's services.

This rate varies from one department to another.

It is calculated according to the number of kilometers traveled daily between your home and your child's school.

To obtain a refund of your expenses, you must apply to the director of the establishment of your child.

Who shall I contact

Your request must be made by plain mail.

It must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • Copy of the decision of the departmental house of disabled people (MDPH) recognizing the disability of your child
  • Copy of your child's schedule
  • Certificate written by yourself certifying that you use your vehicle to drop your child between your home and his school.

The director forwards your request to the services of the department to reimburse you for your transport costs.

You use a carrier to accompany your child (taxi business or school minibus)

Reimbursement of your expenses is based on your expenses.

To obtain a refund of your expenses, you must apply to the director of the establishment of your child.

Who shall I contact

  • Carrier quote for the school year.

The director forwards your request to the services of the department for reimbursement of your expenses.

FYI  

Some departments may directly reimburse the transport business that sends them their invoices. In this case, you do not have to advance the transport costs.
