What is the purpose of the Central Register of Last Will Provisions (FCDDV)?

The FCDDV contains only information about wills entrusted to a notary.

The notary shall register the following information with the FCDDV:

• Existence of the will
• Place of deposit and contact details of the notary with whom the will is deposited
• Civil status of the person concerned.

Every types of wills (holograph, authentic, mystical) are recorded.

After the announcement of a person's death, you can ask the FCDDV for the following information:

• Existence of a will or deeds expressing the last wishes of the deceased person
• Contact details of the notarial office that ensures its conservation.

Anyone can question the FCDDV.

You must provide a death certificate (original or certified true copy). No photocopies are accepted.

Querying the FCDDV costs

• €18 in metropolitan France,
• €16.28 since a Drom,
• €15 from a Com (French Polynesia, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Wallis and Futuna) or from the foreigner.

If the query request is made on the FCDDV website, you can pay by credit card or bank transfer. You must then send the FCDDV the coupon, the proof of payment and the original or certified death certificate or with the mention « computerized document or according to computer process ».

If the query request is made by post, only a transfer can be made. Proof of payment must then be sent by post to the FCDDV. You must attach the original or certified death certificate or with the words "computerized document or computer process".
