Family booklet: delivery at the birth of the first child

If you are not married, a family booklet is given to you on the occasion of the birth of your first common child. If you are single, the procedure is different. We present you the information to know. They differ depending on whether the birth takes place in France or abroad.
Born in France
The family booklet, issued when your 1 is borner child, includes the following:
- Your birth certificate extract
- If you are in a relationship, the birth certificate of the other parent
- Your child's birth certificate extract
- Information on family law (marriage, parentage, adoption, parental authority,...).
Information about the parent(s)
The information about you depends on your situation:

Heterosexual couple
Information about you is provided if the following 2 conditions are met:
- You appear in your child's birth certificate
- Your birth certificate is registered with a French registrar.
If this is not the case, the page of the booklet that concerns you will not be filled.
Couple of women
Information about you is provided if the following 3 conditions are met:
- You've done a early joint recognition
- You appear in your child's birth certificate
- Your birth certificate is registered with a French registrar.
Single parent
Parentage of a child may be established in respect of a parent (mother or father):
Mother
The family record book contains only the birth certificate of the mother and the birth certificate of the child.
The section concerning the other parent is not completed.
Father
The family record book contains only the birth certificate of the father and the birth certificate of the child.
The section concerning the other parent is not completed.
Information about the child
Information about your child is entered if his or her birth certificate is registered with a French registrar.
When you have more than one child, the information is entered in the order of birth.

General scenario
The family record book shall be drawn up by the registrar at the time of declaration of birth.
The birth certificate must be registered in the 5 days after the event, at the town hall of place of birth of your child.
Adoption as single
If you adopt a child, as a single person, a family record book must be given to you by the registrar when the adoption judgment is transcribed into the civil registers.
Medically assisted reproduction as a single person
The family record book shall be drawn up by the registrar at the time of declaration of birth.
The birth certificate must be registered in the 5 days after the event, at the town hall of place of birth of your child.
Birth of a lifeless child
If your first child is born lifeless, you or the person you are in a relationship with can request a family booklet. This is established by the registrar.
You will have to go to the town hall of place of birth of your child.
The family booklet is given to you by the town hall of your child's place of birth, upon presentation of your identity document.

The time taken to obtain the booklet depends on the length of time it takes for each civil registration service concerned by the booklet to process the booklet and the time taken for the mail to be delivered.
Yes, the issuance of the booklet on the occasion of the birth of a 1er child is free of charge.
Any change related to the civil status of persons registered in the family record book (marriage, birth, adoption, divorce, death,...) must be subject to a update.

The family booklet, issued when your 1 is borner child, includes the following:

General scenario
The declaration of birth must be made in the 15 days of delivery. This period is extended to 30 days in some countries.
The family record book is drawn up by the French consular authorities of the country of residence at the time:
- From the declaration of birth
- Or the French birth certificate application (by transcription of the foreigners birth certificate).
Be careful, for Afghanistan, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Libya, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Morocco, Niger, Palestine, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Western Sahara, Somalia, the Sudan, Switzerland, Syria, the Golan Territory, Tunisia, North Korea, Yemen, the transcription requests for births must be sent only by post to the Central Civil Registry Office.

Adoption as single
If you adopt a child, as a single person, a family record book must be given to you by the consular registrar when the adoption judgment is transcribed into the civil registers.
Birth of a lifeless child
If your first child is born lifeless, you or the person you are in a relationship with you can request a family booklet from the french embassy or consulate abroad.
