Ehpad: three new quality indicators to inform older adults and their families

A number of information on the services and services provided by Ehpad (residential facilities for dependent elderly persons) are available in the official directory of these establishments, present on the site pour-les-personnes-agees.gouv.fr. It states in particular:

• the number of single and double rooms;
• the number of places entitled to social assistance in accommodation (ASH) ;
• the presence or absence of a night nurse and/or a coordinating doctor;
• the facilities available in the establishment (balneotherapy, rooms equipped for physiotherapy or psychomotricity, educational workshop rooms, internal pharmacy, etc.);
• the existence or absence within the establishment of one or more coordination support mechanisms, to accompany people with complex health needs and difficulties.

Since August 2026, new information has been available, linked to Ehpad staff:

• from rates of medical, paramedical and socio-educational supervision (this corresponds to the number of staff present for each elderly person welcomed);
• from staff absenteeism rate, measured in the previous year;
• from staff turnover rate (this allows you to know the staff turnover within the establishment during the previous year).

The prices of accommodation and services offered by each establishment are also indicated in the directory.

How to compare Ehpad from indicators?

Within the Ehpad directory, an « add to comparison » feature allows you to select up to 3 establishments and obtain a comparison:

• the characteristics of the establishments (public, private non-profit or private commercial status, the profile of the rooms – single, double, superior to two beds –, the number of places entitled to social assistance for accommodation, etc.);
• accommodation prices;
• the various services offered (care and support services, the presence or absence of a sensory stimulation room, etc.).
