3040, a new unique help number for students in difficulty

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space has just launched, the 1er july 2026, a unique listening number for students: 3040. Free and confidential, it is intended for students in difficulty who need to consult a psychologist, an educator or a lawyer.

The 3040 is accessible during the day ; it is led by the National Coordination for Student Assistance (Cnaé). In the evening, the relay is provided by the Nightline hotline from 9 pm to 2.30 am. It is a free, anonymous and confidential nightly hotline provided by students trained in caring listening practices and peer support.

Starting in autumn 2026, the 3040 telephone line will be strengthened by the creation of a national portal entirely dedicated to students' mental health. This portal will bring together the various support systems already in place to guide students in distress via a questionnaire. This will help guide students to the resources best suited to their situation.

Reminder

Health Psych Student is a psychological support program for students in distress of higher education. This system allows students to benefit from consultations with psychologists validated by the medical services of universities without advance payment. The approach consists in choosing a psychologist and making an appointment with the latter on santepsy.student.gouv.fr. The student can benefit from up to 12 renewable sessions each year.

Health Psych Student It does not replace other psychological support systems, but is in addition to existing ones, such as the University Psychological Support Offices (BAPU) or the hotlines dedicated to students (Cnaé, Nightline, Apsytude, Apaso...).
