Some substances that have been banned for more than 20 years are still in the air because of their environmental persistence. PhytAtmo Dataviz, Atmo France's new tool, is an interactive medium for accessing data on pesticide measurements to which the population is exposed. Since March 30, Atmo France proposes an interactive national map showing the concentrations of pesticides in the atmosphere.

What is PhytAtmo Dataviz?

PhytAtmo is the national database that centralizes all measurements of pesticides in the air carried out by the approved air quality monitoring associations (AASQA) in France since 2002. Often associated with the pollution of food, soil or water, pesticides are also found in another environment: the air we breathe every day. These measured pesticide values concern territories and periods.

It is not an “exposure map” of populations but a tracking tool for monitoring pesticide levels in the air, even though there is no regulatory value. It makes it easier to identify if the situation on a site is unusual or deserves special attention.

Who is PhytAtmo Dataviz for?

PhytAtmo Dataviz is aimed at different audiences:

  • public decision-makers, in order to guide local policies;
  • agricultural stakeholders, so that they can better understand the presence of pesticides in the air;
  • the general public, thanks to an educational and transparent approach.

These data make it possible to provide shared, objective and understandable information to feed local public policies (planning, agriculture, environment, etc.) in order to inform decisions and strengthen collective vigilance against the presence of pesticides in the air.
