A new free carpooling service in Île-de-France

A carpooling line is a public transport service organized by motorists themselves, who offer their available seats to passengers on the same journey.

The Ile-de-France operator launches 2 types of carpooling accessible via the Covoir IDFM application:

• Network carpooling (planned): you book your journey via the Covit IDFM app, indicating your return journey. The application provides an itinerary and connects the passenger with a driver, especially for commuting or home-study. A solution in case of absence of other means of transport or disruption of the network.
• Carpool line (fixed): you physically go to a stop, without prior reservation, you report yourself via the application or by SMS, and you wait for the passage of a driver. The stops are materialized on the public space. This operation is similar to that of a bus and allows service to areas less dense in means of transport or areas where the car is essential.

Covoir IDFM: how does it work?

Simply download the Covoit IDFM app from App Store (iOS) or on Google Play Store (Android) then fill in your journey by indicating your departure and arrival points and your schedules. The app offers you a route and puts you in touch with a driver for a pre-booked trip: this is the network carpooling (planned).

For carpooling lines (without reservation), if you are looking for a passenger seat:

• fill in your journey on  IDFM Carpool Lines  (or by SMS via the numbers displayed at the stops);
• go to the carpool stop nearest you;
• you are being picked up by a driver who is passing through this route.

For drivers, the approach is just as simple. Before you hit the road:

• indicate your route on  IDFM Carpool Lines  ;
• select all stops you plan to go through;
• the roadside signs shall indicate a passenger's request and destination;
• you pick up your passengers at the selected stops, without changing your usual route.

What is the pricing for the Covoit IDFM service?

Two rides per day are offered to all annual, monthly and Imagine R Navigo subscribers who use the carpooling service, provided they are over 18 years old.

Carpoolers

Before 1^er April 2026, carpooling service is available to all passengers who subscribe or do not subscribe to a Navigo or Imagine R.

From 1^er April 2026, passengers who do not have an annual, monthly or Imagine R Navigo pass will pay 50 cents for any journey less than 20 km, then 10 cents per km up to 30 km (up to a limit of €1.50).

Drivers

As of today, drivers can collect €2 per passenger for any journey of less than 20 km, then 10 cents per km up to 30 km (up to €3). The amount collected may not exceed € 200 per month.
