The end of the cardboard ticket in Île-de-France

Publié le 04 novembre 2025 - Mise à jour le 05 novembre 2025 - Public Service / Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

From November 5th, if you are traveling in Île-de-France, it is no longer possible to buy cardboard tickets on the bus, tram, metro and RER networks. If you have any left, they are still usable for a few months, but you can also exchange them. Public Service informs you about the schedule set up by the carriers.

Since 1er In October 2025, the sale of cardboard tickets gradually stopped in Île-de-France.

Here is the calendar for the end of the sale and the end of the use of the cardboard ticket:

  • 1er october: end of the sale on vending machines for bus and tram tickets.
  • 1er November: end of the sale on board buses in Paris and in the small crown.
  • 5 November: end of ticket sales on the entire RATP metro/RER network (exceptions on the SNCF network: machines being changed, origin/destination tickets to stations outside Île-de-France).
  • 1er may 2026: the cardboard ticket is no longer accepted on the surface network (bus, tram).
  • 1er june 2026: cardboard tickets are no longer accepted on the rail network (except for tickets to stations outside Île-de-France).

Do you still have t+ tickets (metro, tram, bus in Île-de-France and RER in Paris), tickets for airports or origin-destination tickets? They are not refundable but you can already exchange them: you have until 1er June 2026.

You must go to a RATP or SNCF ticket office so that your tickets are converted to equivalent digital format (full rate or reduced rate) on a Navigo Easy pass. You must therefore first bring this type of pass, for sale at the station or station (it costs 2 €).

Warning

Cardboard tickets are no longer accepted on trams T1 and T10 and on some bus lines.

With the completion of the cardboard ticket, the carriers have implemented solutions to facilitate the transition to dematerialization of users in the Paris region: the Navigo Easy pass (non-nominative, for occasional travelers), purchase and validation via the smartphone with the Île-de-France Mobility application or the Navigo Liberté + (to use all modes of transport without reloading). To discover all the possibilities, you can consult the site Île-de-France mobility.

Reminder

Since 1er January 2025, pricing in Île-de-France has been simplified with 2 types of tickets:

  • metro-train-RER ticket: €2.50;
  • bus-tram ticket: 2 €.
