A new poster to know the environmental impact of clothing

The environmental display device for clothing is characterized by a numerical index; it is a number of points of impact on the planet. The higher the number displayed, the greater the environmental impact of the product. The number of impact points is established taking into account different criteria related to the entire life cycle of the garment (from the production of raw materials to the end of the product's life as waste). Among these criteria:

• the consumption of water and other natural resources, as well as the use of plant protection products, for the manufacture of clothing;
• the modes of transport used to make the product available to consumers;
• the emission of microfibers, in particular when washing the product;
• the possibilities for recycling or repair;
• the non-physical durability of the garment (the propensity that the garment will have to be worn for a long time, taking into account in particular the possibility of rearrangement). Physical durability (the ability of the garment to withstand the physical wear associated with its use and maintenance) must eventually be included in the calculation of the number of impact points.

Brands that wish will be able to use the device from 1^er October 2025, to indicate the environmental cost of the clothes they sell in stores or online.

The possible number of impact points is not limited by a maximum value. One of the objectives of the environmental display is to allow you to make an ecological comparison between, for example, several sweaters with an equivalent price.
