Publié le 11 octobre 2024 - Mise à jour le 22 juillet 2025 - Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Passengers on the Inoui and Intercités TGV trains must comply with SNCF rules concerning their luggage on board trains. In the middle of the summer holidays, Service-Public.fr inform you.

Since February 2024, the rules imposed by the SNCF have come into force and allow at most for each traveler:

  • 2 pieces of luggage with maximum dimensions of 70 x 90 x 50 cm (suitcase, hiking bag, sports bag, etc.);
  • 1 hand luggage with maximum dimensions of 40 x 30 x 15 cm (backpack, tote bag, handbag, computer bag, etc.).

All luggage must be tagged.

The carrier’s general instruction is: “ You just need to be able to carry all your luggage yourself at once. »

Travelers who do not comply with the baggage instructions are liable to a fine of 50 euros per piece of luggage non-compliant or surplus (150 euros for luggage that impedes traffic in the corridors).

In case of special luggage

You can take per person:

  • 1 piece of luggage such as a suitcase or travel bag (maximum dimensions of 70 x 90 x 50 cm);
  • 1 carry-on bag (maximum dimensions 40 x 30 x 15 cm);

Reminder

Carry-on luggage or space-saving bags should be placed at your feet, under or above your seat; other luggage should be left at the entrance, in the center of your car or in the open spaces (on the ground) between some seats arranged back to back.

SNCF offers a luggage delivery service (My Luggage) that picks up your luggage at your home or at one of its relay points and delivers it where and when you want.
