Vital card for minors: the delivery methods specified

Do you know that your minor child can have his own Vital Card? Two decrees of 13 August 2026 specify the procedures for issuing the Vitale card to minors. Public Service informs you about the steps to be taken.

The decrees of 13 August 2026 aim to simplify the process of access to the Vitale card for minors. The provisions are as follows:

  • Any minor aged 16 years and over may be issued a Vital Card, subject to the consent of one of the persons exercising parental authority.
  • The physical Vitale card must be requested by a parent via the parent's email account or by sending the dedicated form back to the health insurance fund.
  • The Vital card for minors can be obtained via the Vital card mobile application according to a dedicated route (with a possible blocking by parental authority).
  • Minors between the ages of 12 and 15 can also obtain a Vitale card, upon request from a parent.

On the other hand children in the care of children's welfare (ASE) will now have their own vital card. Ase must inform the Health Insurance of the placement of the child and request his or her « personal affiliation ». The body will send the child's Physical Vital Card in return.

Children aged 16 or over can apply for the Vitale card in mobile form, via the activation pathway applicable to adults.

When the child is no longer in the care of ASE, the latter must inform the Health Insurance and provide information concerning « the person who ensures the effective and permanent maintenance of the minor ». The Vital Card will be updated if the child is 12 years old or older; it will be invalidated if the child is under 12 years old.

Please note

Up to 16 years old, the young is attached to one or both parents, who usually cover his health costs (they are reimbursed). He is beneficiary attached to his parents even if he can have his own Vital Card and his own Social Security number. His friendly account will only be created when he is a majority.

Some reminders about your minor child's Vital Card

The Vitale card is issued free of charge by the Health Insurance.

At the age of 16, your child receives a letter from the Health Insurance indicating the procedure for receiving his Vital Card. The request can be made from your ameli account. His Vitale card will be sent to him within 3 weeks.

Remember to send your own bank identity statement (RIB) if you wish to receive reimbursement for treatment directly.

Please note that the Vitale card can be requested from the age of 12, upon request of the parents.
