The Vitale card now available on your smartphone

After a gradual roll-out on French territory, the digital Vitale card is open to all insured persons as of November 18, 2025. Downloadable free under Android (Google Play) and iOS (App Store), it can be activated by all persons affiliated to the Social Security (general scheme of the Health Insurance, agricultural scheme of the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA), MGEN or other special schemes), confirms the website of the Health Insurance.

The Digital Vital Card is a dematerialized alternative to the physical card. With a very high level of security, it guarantees the same functions as the physical card: identification with the Health Insurance, reimbursement of health costs with teletransmission, etc.

It has other advantages:

• it allows you to always be in possession of your card during an appointment;
• updating your insurance rights is automatic;
• you can immediately view your health care expenses;
• this device makes it possible to reduce the paper care sheets.

You can use the Digital Vital Card in the same situations as the physical card:

• with healthcare professionals (medical consultation, dispensing of medicines at the pharmacy, etc.);
• and with health facilities (e.g. hospitalization).

How to activate the Vitale card app?

If you don't have a CNIe: generalized video path

• download the application Vitale card (Android or iOS);
• prepare your ID and Social Security number;
• follow the instructions to film your face and ID;
• the activation is validated in a few minutes (up to 48 hours in some cases).

To use this procedure, you must:

• have an active ameli account;
• have a smartphone in version 9 minimum for Android and 16 for iOS;
• be at least 16 or 18 years old, depending on your membership plan.

If you have a CNIe: activation via France Identity

To activate the Vital Card application with France Identity:

1. download the Vitale card application and start the activation path;
2. at the time of the identity verification, click on the option “Identify me with France Identity”. You will then be redirected to the France Identité application;
3. scan your identity card;
4. enter your personal code;
5. start contactless reading of your identity card.

You will then be redirected to the Vital Card application to complete the activation of your card.

Access to the Vital card application is secured with double authentication: a 6-digit personal secret code in addition to the code locking your smartphone. Personal data is processed in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
