The social leasing of electric cars is renewed from 16 July 2026

Social leasing is a support system for the long-term rental of electric cars open to Metropolitan France, the DROM and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. In order to benefit in 2026, the following conditions are required.

• Your reference tax income per share must be less than or equal to 16,880 € (if the first rent for the rental of the vehicle is paid in 2026, the reference tax income taken into account is that shown on your tax notice of 2025 in respect of 2024 income).

• The part of the journey between your home and your place of work, which is carried out exclusively with your personal vehicle, must be strictly greater than 10 kilometers. If you are an employee, your employer must provide you with a certificate justifying this distance. If you are not an employee, you must provide a sworn certificate and proof of affiliation to a social security scheme for the current year.
  Or you have to drive more than 8,000 kilometers a year in the course of your professional activity with your personal vehicle.

The social leasing system is applied in the context of a long-term lease (LLD) or a lease with an option to purchase (LOA); in both cases, the duration of the lease must be at least 3 years. At the end of this contract, you must return the vehicle or buy it at its residual value (this is the amount of the car at the end of the rental contract, taking into account the depreciation of the value of the vehicle).

The amount of rent to be paid for the rental of the vehicle will depend on the car model you choose. As part of the 2026 edition of the social leasing, this rent will necessarily amount to less than €200 per month for a mileage of at least 15,000 km/year at no additional cost (this does not include the cost of insurance, nor the price of options or additional services).

How to order a car with social leasing in 2026?

Orders for electric cars with social leasing will be possible from 16 July 2026.

You can choose from the different models of electric cars offered by the rental companies, which meet the eligibility conditions of the device (subject to the availability of vehicles). The list of vehicles eligible for the 2026 social leasing is available on ADEME website. Please note that only new vehicles are eligible (second-hand cars or cars converted to electric are excluded from the system). To get help, you should contact an automotive professional enrolled with the ASP (Service and Payment Agency); it will take care of all administrative procedures.

The aid granted shall be equal to 29% of the purchase cost of the vehicle up to €6,500.

This limit may reach a maximum amount of €9,000 whether the vehicle manufacturing site and the battery production site are located in the european economic area. If the electric motor was manufactured in the European Economic Area, a flat-rate surcharge of €500 may be granted.
