The desire of the organizers of Mai à vélo is to show that, in addition to being beneficial for health and air quality, cycling can also be a source of pleasure and have many benefits in everyday life. Supported by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Ministry of Sports, and bringing together a collective of national actors from the world of cycling, this event is a unifying and festive approach. The aim is to bring together existing initiatives and encourage public and private organizations to propose new bicycle events in mainland France and overseas. For the year 2025, the site Mai à vélo offers several types of activities.

Here is an overview of what is planned:

  • business challenges: challenges to encourage participants to cycle as many miles as possible using the Geovelo application to follow the routes. These challenges are open to schools, companies, public institutions, etc. ;
  • workshops and initiations: bicycle repair, marking and road safety training workshops are organized;
  • local events: Cycling trips, bicycle scholarships and various activities are organized by communities, associations, businesses and individuals;
  • greenways festival: this event joins Mai by bike to encourage the use of green lanes;
  • webinars and educational resources webinars are organized to help organizers plan and promote their events. Educational resources and communication kits are also available to support local initiatives.

For more details and to find the program of events near you, you can consult the official website May by bike.

New for 2025: But by bike now uses the agenda management platform OpenAgenda, a simple and intuitive tool to record and manage your events, but also a new channel to broadcast them efficiently.

The interactive map May by bike remains active and all the events recorded via OpenAgenda will be visible there, automatically and without any action on your part!

How to participate in Mai by bike?

You can attend an event or propose an activity.

  • To attend an event, see the platform maiavelo.fr. You can find the activity that best suits you by doing a search by date, city, department, region, by theme (animation, walk, workshop, competition...), by audience (children, family, seniors, sports), by level of difficulty and by type of practice (BMX, city, road, mountain bike, track...).
  • You can offer an animation on the platform as an association, club, public institution, community, school, company, private individual, group of friends... You can unite with local associations to coordinate and offer a complete immersion including several activities. The event must be accessible to as many people as possible and should ideally:
    1. be free of charge and not for profit or commercial purposes;
    2. be accessible to all; if not, you must specify the level of difficulty.
  • You can register your organization (community, company, association, school...) to the activity challenges Mai à vélo. The goal is for your group to cycle as many miles as possible during the month of May. Local and national rankings are established according to the type of structure, their size and the geographical area of activity.

Please note

In 2025, Mai à vélo celebrates her 5th birthday. Last year, more than 5,000 events were held throughout France as part of the event, and more than 9 million kilometers were covered by the 178,000 participants of the activity challenge.
