Contraception is the set of means to avoid pregnancy. There are different types of contraception. The best known are the contraceptive pill and the condom. They are for women and men. The reimbursement depends in particular on the chosen device. We present you the regulations to know.
Devices | Characteristics |

Intrauterine device (IUD) | Device placed inside the uterus by a doctor or midwife. Effective for 4 to 10 years, depending on model. There are 2 types: hormonal or copper. |
Pill | Tablet to be taken daily at regular time for 21 or 28 days |
Patch | Stick yourself to the skin once a week and renew each week for 3 weeks. There is no patch to stick on the 4e week which thus causes the appearance of menstruation. Allows you to be protected even during the shutdown period. |
Implant | 4 cm cylindrical stick inserted under the skin of the arm, under local anesthesia by a doctor or midwife. It can be left in place for 3 years. |
Vaginal ring | Flexible ring to place yourself inside the vagina, like a tampon. It should be left in place for 3 weeks. At the beginning of the 4e During the week, the ring must be removed, causing the onset of menstruation. Allows you to be protected even during the shutdown period. |
Diaphragm and cervical cap | Silicone cup to place yourself inside the vagina. It is used in combination with a spermicidal product. The cape is a silicone dome that covers the cervix. These devices can be placed at the time of sexual intercourse, but also several hours before and must be kept for 8 hours after intercourse. |
External condom « male » and internal « female » | The external condom is placed on the penis before penetration, while the internal condom can be placed inside the vagina or anus several hours before sexual intercourse |
Spermicides | Gel and egg to be placed inside the vagina a few minutes before each intercourse thus destroying the sperm |
Injectable progestins | Intramuscular injection every 3 months by a doctor, midwife or nurse |
Definitive contraception | Surgery in men (vasectomy) or women (tubal ligation). These methods are considered irreversible. |

- Or a midwife in a town office or sexual health center.
Who shall I contact
Doctors, midwives and sexual health centers are authorized to prescribe all forms of contraception.
One prescription is necessary for the following contraceptives:
- Intrauterine device (IUD)
- Pill
- Patch
- Implant
- Vaginal ring
- Diaphragm and cervical cap (spermicides that accompany the use of the diaphragm can be purchased in pharmacies without a prescription)
- Injectable progestins.
The consent of the parents or legal guardian is not required for the prescription, dispensing or administration of contraceptives to underage girls.
FYI
The nurse can prescribing condoms and emergency contraceptives.
He can also renew prescriptions, less than 1 year old, of certain oral contraceptive drugs, for a maximum of 6 months, non-renewable.
This refund rate may vary according to age.

The delivery of condoms supported in 100% by the Health Insurance is limited to one box per delivery. Depending on the patient's choice, it can be a box of 6 to 24 condoms.

The mutual societies (supplementary health insurance) may cover all or part of the costs that are not reimbursed by the Health Insurance if the contract so provides. Ask your health insurance company.
Some contraceptives are free of charge in sexual health centers:
- For the minor girls wishing to keep the secret
- And for the adult women without health insurance.
The following contraceptive costs for children under 26 years of age are covered by the Health Insurance, without advance charge :
- Follow-up consultation with a doctor or midwife 1re year of access to contraception
- Annual consultation carried out, starting from 2e year of access to contraception, by a doctor or midwife, for a contraceptive prescription or biological tests related to contraception
- Some medical laboratory tests related to contraception (fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol and triglycerides), once a year
- Acts leading to the placement, change or withdrawal of a contraceptive
- Delivery of reimbursable contraceptives, in pharmacies, on presentation of a medical prescription.

The Health Insurance also covers 100% long-term sexual health consultation (no advance charge). It is accessible to all young people, girls and boys, up to 25 years old.
