Can we have several family booklets?
Verified 04 August 2026 - Public Service / (Prime Minister)
Yes, it is possible to have several family booklets when children are born of different unions.
When a family record book is drawn up in the name of two parents, only children common to the latter may be entered in it.
If one parent has a child with another person, that child will be entered in another family record book.
It is therefore not possible to include half-brothers and half-sisters born of different unions in the same family booklet.
Example :
You give birth to a son in 2024 and recognize him. Afterwards, you meet your spouse, who does not want to recognize this child.
In 2026, you give birth to a girl. You and your spouse recognized her before she was born.
The birth of your son allowed you to obtain a first family booklet. On the other hand, your daughter cannot be registered, since she is not the common child of the 2 parents mentioned on this booklet.
A second family booklet is therefore issued. It mentions your daughter and her 2 parents, namely you and your spouse.
