Under what conditions can a pet be admitted to a nursing home?

Elderly people residing in Ehpad: titleContent can be accommodated with their pet if authorized by the social life council of the institution.
Older adults who wish to live with their pets in nursing homes must be able to take care of their pets.
It must be in capacity to ensure the physiological, behavioral and medical needs of the animal.
The elderly person must provide at the time of admission or arrival of the animal a veterinary certificate less than 3 months old with the following particulars:
- Identification of the animal
- Characteristics of the animal (species, breed, age, weight, and other distinctive signs)
- Where appropriate, vaccinations carried out
- If applicable, veterinary certificate of sterilization
- Where appropriate, treatment and care required
- Non-dangerousness and ability of the animal to cohabit.
The elderly person must also comply with health and safety conditions following:
- Ensure and take care of veterinary care required by the health of the animal
- Ensure the absence of dangerous behavior of the animal, including in private spaces
- Respect the rules, set by the director of the establishment to ensure the hygiene, safety of staff and residents, or the tranquility of residents, and relating to spaces subject to prohibitions or restrictions of access for animals
- Provide and make available to the establishment equipment to contain the animal if necessary
- Provide access to clean and potable water, renewed as needed, in a clean container at all times
- Take charge of the food adapted to the needs of the animal
- Provide daily care to ensure the well-being of the animal.

The dogs categorized cannot be admitted to nursing homes.
