What is the Asylum Seeker's Allowance (Ada)?

Verified 01 April 2026 - Public Service / Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

If you are an asylum seeker, you are not allowed to work before 6 months. If you are of legal age and under certain conditions, you may be paid an asylum seeker's allowance (Ada). Its amount depends on your family situation. We present you the information to know.

As an asylum seeker, you may be entitled to Ada if you meet all of the following conditions:

  • Have accepted the material reception conditions proposed by theOfii: titleContent
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be in possession of the asylum seeker's certificate
  • Have filed your asylum application with theOfpra: titleContent within 21 days (except Dublin procedure)
  • Have monthly resources less than the amount of the RSA: titleContent.

The amount of the RSA varies according to your personal situation:

You are considered a single parent if you are pregnant or if you have at least 1 child or 1 dependent and that you find yourself alone following a life event. This is the case, for example, if your spouse dies or if you separate from them.

You can then benefit from an increase in the RSA amount. This increase is also called mark-up.

The duration of this increase varies according to the date of occurrence of the event:

  • If the event occurs after the child's 3 years of age, the increase lasts 12 months and must be paid during the 18 months following the date of the event. You must therefore report this type of event to your Caf: titleContent within 6 months of its occurrence.
  • If the event occurs before the child's 3 years of age, the increase lasts until the child is 3 years old.
