The majority of boarding schools are attended by middle and high school students. However, some institutions admit interns from kindergarten and after high school.

To enter boarding school, you and your child must be volunteers. Your child's level of education is not an admission criterion.

The admission of interns shall take into account the following criteria:

  • The class type in which your child is enrolled (middle school and vocational students are given priority)
  • Some geographical criteria. If your child lives in priority neighborhoods of city policy, in priority education or in isolated rural areas, it is selected before the others. Pupils whose family residence is far from the school or training institution are also given priority.
  • Some social criteria. If your child lives in a disadvantaged social environment, it is a priority.
  • Some family criteria. The difficulties of educational supervision or the existence of a child protection measure are taken into account.
  • One parity criterion. Balance is sought between girls and boys.

Registration is made with the head of the institution with a boarding school.

To do this, you must fill in a application file. It is available on the academies' websites.

The file gathers the elements concerning your child's education, his profile, his motivations. The various opinions of the social and health professionals concerned by your child's situation are also part of the application file.

The head teacher ranks the applications according to the admission criteria.

The ₪ of the boarding school complements that of the school. It organizes the collective life in the premises and ensures respect for the intimate space of the interns.

The educational and pedagogical project of the boarding school is adopted by the board of directors. It specifies a number of rules of life in the boarding school and in particular the following:

  • Conditions allowing the well-being of the intern
  • Rules for dialog with interns
  • Modes of association and involvement of parents in the follow-up of their child's education
  • Role of the members of the educational community of the establishment
  • Extracurricular time respecting the needs of residents (studies, educational, sporting, artistic and cultural activities, free time).

Rates for accommodation costs are set by a deliberation of the establishment's board of directors.

They include the following costs:

  • Direct cost of services
  • Participation in general operating expenses.

Part of these costs are borne by the State. The other part is at your expense.

Accommodation costs are flat-rate, payable quarterly and in advance.

Private boarding school

The boarding school is a welcoming place that allows your child to follow his schooling while being fed and housed.

It exists 2 kinds of private boarding schools. Boarding schools contracted private are subsidized by the State. Boarding schools off-contract private are not subsidized by the State.

Boarding school springboard

The stepping stone boarding school is one of the relay devices. They allow to tackling early school leaving and social exclusion of your child.

The stepping stone boarding school is a welcoming place that allows your child to follow his schooling while being fed and housed. The goal is to socialize your child, to educate him or her to citizenship but also to reinvest in learning.

Your child can join this system if he is in middle or high school, rejects the school institution and risks dropping out.

For example: if your child is severely absent or frequently sanctioned.

If your child is in school and you give your consent, the educational commission of his school prepare his admission file.

This file details the assistance and support measures that have been provided to it.

It includes the advice of the guidance counselor-psychologist, the school doctor and the social worker.

If your child is no longer in school, he or she can be followed up with a partner of the relay mechanisms (for example, the judicial protection of young people). In this case, the partner will be able to accompany you towards a springboard internship orientation.

The head of the establishment sends the file to a departmental commission placed under the authority of the Dasen: titleContent.

If your child has been definitively excluded 2 times during the same school year, his admission file is transmitted to the commission by the violence referent of the department.

Reception in a stepping stone boarding school can also be imposed by a judicial decision on placement.

The boarding school springboard welcomes maximum 12 students.

The boarding school is attached to a local public educational institution (IT). However, the stepping stone boarding school cannot be linked to a school classified as a priority education.

The boarding school may be settled on the premises of the home school if it already has a boarding school.

It can also be settled on the premises of an association approved by the academic authority. In this case, an agreement specifies the methods of exercising the responsibilities of the head of school on pupils and staff.

A reinforced pedagogical and educational team supervises the interns. An educator from the Judicial Protection of Youth (PJJ) is notably present in the supervising team.

Your child is, in principle, educated in relay classHowever, this is not the case if your child's situation allows him or her to attend school in one of the school's classes or if there is no relay class nearby.

Outside of class time, the stepping stone boarding school allows your child to be accompanied to carry out his school work. The “homework done” scheme it will therefore be proposed systematically.

Boarding school life is intended to empower students and develop their autonomy. This includes cultural and sporting practices and community involvement.

If the conditions are met and the reception capacities of the home institution allow it, your child will be able to finish his schooling in “traditional” boarding school.
