Who receives family benefits and allowances in a couple?

It is necessary to designate at the Caf: titleContent (if you are dependent on the general plan) or MSA: titleContent (if you are dependent on the farm plan) the person in the couple who is entitled to the benefits.

The situation varies depending on whether you live in the same household or are separated:

Parents living in the same household

If, as parents, you live in the same household and assume together the effective and permanent care of your child, you must designate, by mutual agreement, the parent who is entitled to family benefits. This parent is called the recipient.

This choice (says right of option) can be done at any time.

You can no longer change the designation of the recipient parent for 1 year. However, there is an exception in the case of a change of situation (e.g. divorce).

In case of separation, you must contact your caisse. The Caf and the MSA set out the procedure to be followed.

If you do not designate a recipient, family benefits are paid to the mother.

In the event of separation, benefits are paid to the parent in which the child lives. This parent is called the recipient.

Alternate Guard

Of special rules apply in case of alternate custody. They vary depending on who you are whether or not to agree on the designation of the recipient(s).
