Can we still apply for the Pension Equivalent Allowance (AER)?

No. The pension equivalent allowance (AER), intended for job seekers who have not reached retirement age but who have required quarters to have a full pension, is not more assigned since 1er January 2011.

Alone persons whose entitlements to the EAR have been open before 1er January 2011 shall continue to collect it until the expiry of their rights.

There is 2 types of AERs:

  • Replacement AER paid in lieu of the specific solidarity allowance (SSA) or the RSA: titleContent, to jobseekers who have exhausted their entitlement to the Return to Employment Assistance (RHE)
  • Complementary EAR paid to jobseekers in addition to the EAR when the amount of the EAR is less than the amount of the EAR
Replacement AER

It is from €42.12 per day.

The monthly amount is equal to the daily amount multiplied by the number of days of the month in question, i.e. €1,263.60 for a 30-day month.

The amount of the monthly allowance depends on the resources of the applicant and the person with whom he lives as a couple. All resources subject to income tax are taken into account.

The amount withheld is 12è the resources received during the 12 months preceding the month of application.

The following resources shall be excluded from the calculation of annual resources:

  • Unemployment or solidarity allowances (SSA, RSA: titleContent)
  • Family benefits
  • Housing allowance
  • Traineeship remuneration and income from employment received during the 12 months preceding the application for the EAR

The monthly amount of the EAR varies whether the person is alone or in a relationship :

For a single person

The monthly amount of the EAR for a single person depends on his or her monthly resources.

In the event of resumption of a reduced or occasional professional activity, the monthly amount of the EAR shall be reduced. The number of days not compensated shall be calculated as follows:

0.60 x (gross compensation / €42.12).

For a couple

The monthly amount of the AER for a single couple depends on their monthly resources.

The amount of the EAR varies according to the income of the Civil partnership partner (unemployment benefits, internship pay).

3 cases:

  • No income: AER = Difference between €2,906.28 and the amount of resources
  • Income greater than €1,642.68 : EAR = Difference between €1,263.60 and the amount of income (except income of the Civil partnership partner, common-law partner)
  • Income less than €1,642.68 : EAR = Difference between €2,906.28 and the amount of the means (including the income of the Civil partnership partner, common-law partner)

Greater than €2,906.28

No EAR

In the event of resumption of a reduced or occasional professional activity, the monthly amount of the EAR shall be reduced. The number of days not compensated shall be calculated as follows:

0.60 x (gross compensation / €42.12).

Complementary EAR

To qualify for the top-up EAR, you must have resources less than :

  • €1,263.60 if you live alone,
  • €2,906.28 if you are in a relationship of which less than €1,263.60 in a personal capacity.

The supplementary EAR supplements the applicant’s resources by €1,263.60. The resources of your spouse or partner are not taken into account.

Example :

A couple has €2,400 by month of which €900.00 for the applicant for the EAR and €1,500 for the activity of her spouse or Civil partnership partner. The amount of the EAR is €363.60 (1 263.60 - 900).

In the event of resumption of a reduced or occasional professional activity, the monthly amount of the EAR shall be reduced. The number of days not compensated shall be calculated as follows:

0.60 x (gross compensation / €42.12).

In the 2 cases

The EAR is awarded and paid each month by France Travail (formerly Pôle emploi) for a period of 12 months.

The AER is then renewed under the same conditions as during the firstera allocation, if you received the allowance before 1er January 2011.

It is paid each month by France Travail à terme échu (for example at the beginning of November for the October allowance).

When the beneficiary of the supplementary EAR matures his entitlement to unemployment benefits, his entitlement to the EAR shall be calculated in accordance with the rules on the replacement EAR.
