Health studies reform: what will change from the start of the 2027 academic year

The current PASS (Health Specific Access Path) and LAS (Health Access License) system will be replaced by a single health studies curriculum as of the start of the 2027 academic year. All health sectors - medicine, maieutics, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy (MMOPK) - are concerned by the reform. The latter is put in place to allow clearer access to health studies and harmonization of programs while maintaining scientific rigor among students.

What the health studies reform provides

In concrete terms, the reform provides for the end of the PASS and LAS, difficult to understand for students and their families due to its lack of legibility.

This reform will establish a single path access to health studies. All students will follow same first year (more readable and balanced program), harmonized at national level.

This first year will be divided into 3 teaching blocks:

• health block (24-30 ECTS*): basic scientific knowledge common to the 5 MMOPK programs. Streamlined program, refocused on the essential;
• Disciplinary block (24-30 ECTS*): teaching of a contributory license (biology, law, humanities, nursing, etc.);
• transversal block (6-12 ECTS*): psycho-social skills, communication, ethics, human and social sciences.

* ECTS: European Credit Transfer System. Studies (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) are organized into units of common measurement in higher education in Europe, which, once obtained, give rise to the award of points called ECTS. Each validated semester entitles you to 30 ECTS. The credits acquired are definitively and are recognized in all European universities. It is therefore possible to continue your studies at another French university or European institution.

New selection procedures

To access MMOPK channels, the new reform introduces the following modalities:

• the possibility to apply twice: at the end of the first year and at the end of the second year of the license;
• the “health” and “disciplinary” blocks (≥ 10/20 each) must be validated;
• the ranking will be based on the entire academic background (performance throughout the course) and not on a single exam or final competition;
• oral exams will be encouraged according to the organizations of each university;
• repetition will be allowed once;
• tailored programs to streamline learning.

New pathways to health studies

In addition to access via Parcoursup, there will now be new ways to access health studies, including through gateways:

• an expanded gateway for full license holders to encourage late vocations;
• strengthening of paramedical bridges: for professionals who have validated 3 years of curriculum.

An experiment for access to pharmacy studies is set up. Places reserved in an optional, limited and experimental setting for students wishing to orient themselves exclusively towards this field.
