Dematerialized procedure

From this date, you must make your request only via the ANTS dedicated online service, accessible with a FranceConnect account or your ANTS credentials.

Mandatory Fees

Since 1er In March 2026, the editing and routing of the ICP is provided by a publicly designated provider, and the costs are now borne by the applicant. The cost is set at €7.25. Payment is made by credit card only.

Supporting documents

To apply online, you will need to provide the following documents:

  • proof of identity (CNI, passport, or digital proof of identity via the France Identité application),
  • proof of residence of less than 6 months,
  • valid and in good condition national driving license,
  • recent identity photo of less than 6 months in digital format (e-photo code),

Warning

If your national license is deteriorated, you will need to apply for renewal first before applying for an EPR.

Steps of the online application

To start the process, you must log in or create an ANTS account (via FranceConnect or ANTS logins), then:

  • select the “Apply for an international driving license” approach,
  • fill in the online form and download the supporting documents,
  • validate the summary and proceed to the payment of € 7.25 by credit card,
  • track the progress of the application directly from your ANTS account.

FYI

The current treatment time is estimated to be between 2 and 4 weeks from March 2026 (compared to about 3 months previously).

The ICP is sent by Letter Followed to the address indicated at the time of application. It remains valid for 3 years (or until the expiry date of the national permit, whichever is earlier).

Warning

An international driving license issued before 26 February 2026 shall remain valid until the end of validity date contained therein, and at the latest until 31 December 2029.

Summary of country-specific approaches

The ICP is recognized in many countries, especially outside the European Union. It is useless to drive in the EU, the European Economic Area, as well as, for a short stay, in certain countries such as Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, etc. To check if your destination requires an PCI, find on the Road Safety website, the list of countries in which you can drive with a french license and those that require an international license.
