A new numbering of seats on board the TGV INOUI

Publié le 23 septembre 2025 - Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

The SNCF changes the numbering of seats on the TGV INOUI and Lyria to facilitate the location of seats at the time of boarding. This system is extended to the entire network from 14 December 2025.

How does it work?

SNCF has decided to harmonize the numbering of TGV INOUI with that of OUIGO. From now on, each seat will be identified by a 3-digit number:

The first digit indicates the car number.

The next two designate the seat number.

Example : if you are in car 2, seat 48, your ticket will indicate 248.

If the car has several oars and there are additional cars, it works the same way. The first digit corresponds this time to the second digit of the car number.

Example : if you are in car 12, seat 48, your seat is the 248.

The car number will always remain specified on the tickets, in a separate area, to facilitate the identification of the car in which to embark and to avoid any confusion between two places bearing the same number within the same TGV composed of 2 trains. The ticket will also continue to indicate whether the seat is in top or in low.

Already integrated by OUIGO, the new numbering is gradually deployed on all TGV INOUI and Lyria. It will be effective on December 14, 2025.

Please note

The seats will now be numbered in order, left to right, from the car entrance.

In the 2-level trains, in the lower room, the seats will always be numbered from 1 to 39, then continue from 40 in the upper room.
