What is the follow-up to the ecological bonus?

The aid known as the ‘green bonus for new passenger cars’ has been abolished for vehicles ordered since 1^er July 2025. The Government states that “the envelope allocated to the ecological bonus by the Finance Law for 2025 is consumed”.

However, you can still benefit from this financial support paid for the acquisition or rental of a new electric car. Aid is now provided through Energy Savings Certificates (EWCs), a mechanism that obliges energy suppliers (electricity, gas, fuel oil, etc.) to finance actions to reduce energy consumption and improve energy efficiency.

What are the new amounts of aid for the purchase of an electric car?

The amount of aid you can receive for the purchase or rental of an electric car depends on your reference tax income, as was already the case before under the ecological bonus.

Support is now in the order of:

• €4,200 for households in energy poverty, as well as for those with modest incomes and for some middle-income households;
• €3,100 for other households.

These new provisions of the aid for the purchase of an electric car, introduced on 1^er July 2025, will end on December 31, 2025.

If the date of the billing of your vehicle (or the payment of the 1^er rent in case of rental) occurs in 2025, it is your reference tax income of 2023 that is taken into account (you can find it on your tax assessment of 2024).

What are the steps to take to benefit from the aid?

The change in financing does not affect the steps you must take to obtain this assistance for the purchase or rental of a new electric car. As before with the ecological bonus, you can provide your tax notice to the professional (concessionaire, lessor or organization that has granted a clean vehicle microcredit). As a general rule, the latter then takes care of the steps with an energy supplier allowing you to benefit from an energy saving certificate. In this case, the aid can be directly deducted from the purchase price including VAT if the professional agrees to advance the amount of this financial support.

You can only benefit from the aid if the vehicle fulfills a number of conditions, including:

• be purchased, or rented under a contract of 2 years or more;
• be new (1^re vehicle registration);
• have a acquisition cost less than or equal to 47 000 € TTC (including, if necessary, the cost of acquiring or renting the battery);
• use electricity as an exclusive source of energy;
• have a mass in running order less than 2 400 kg ;
• get a environmental score above the minimum required score (this minimum score is defined by a joint decree of the Ministers of Economy, Energy, Ecology and Transport).
