Social Security pays for glasses that stop short-sightedness in children

That scheme shall apply from 30 June 2025 to glasses marketed under the name Miyosmart by the Japanese group Hoya. It had received a favorable opinion from the High Health Authority in 2022. This is to prevent vision problems from getting worse in young children.

What are the support conditions?

These glasses are now included on the list of products reimbursable by the Health Insurance and will be able to be taken care of only in the treatment of strong myopia (-6 diopters - and/or very progressive at -0.5 diopters per year) in children above 5 years and below 16 years.

The manufacturer announced to AFP a partial coverage by the sickness insurance : € 44.28 on a price of € 147.60 per glass, with a rest largely "provided by the complementary". The aim is to minimize the burden for patients.

What are the conditions for prescription and use?

A prescription from an ophthalmologist is required for the dispensing of glasses. Your child's visual functions, eye history and parental history will be reviewed.

You and your child can then go to your eyewear optician who will prepare a price quote beforehand.

A check after 15 days of wearing the glasses and then every 3 months to check the setting will be put in place at the optician.

Then, you will have to fill out an adaptation and performance questionnaire necessary to analyze your child's case.

Next, an eye doctor should check every 6 months to assess vision and monitor the progress of your child's myopia.
