Whether or not to keep your student accommodation during the summer

  • If you are housed in a residence of the Crous (Regional Centers for University and School Works), you can keep your student accommodation during the summer, as a rule until the end of August, provided that you pay the rent. It is also possible to leave before summer if you do not wish to pay the rent during the summer period.

Warning

If you wish to keep your Crous home for the next academic year, you must a renewal request on the internet, according to the schedule provided by your residence.

  • If you rent from an individual with a classic furnished lease, and that the landlord does not wish to recover the housing, the contract is automatically renewed from one year to the next.
You cannot keep the accommodation if you have signed a student lease or a non-renewable mobility lease that ends in June. Get closer to your landlord to know the terms of renewal of the lease.

Can we collect the PLA during the summer?

If you are a beneficiary of personalized housing assistance (APL), you must in any case indicate your situation for the summer to your Family Allowance Fund (Caf), in the "My Account" area, on the Caf website or via the Caf - My Account mobile application.

The Caf asks you if you will keep your home in July and August. In the absence of information, she considers that you leave the premises before the end of June. You will no longer receive housing assistance for the summer.

What steps according to your situation?

  • You keep your home during the summer and pay the rent: indicate it before the end of July to the Caf to continue to receive the aid.
  • You keep your accommodation at the beginning of the school year but you do not pay rent this summer: indicate it to the Caf before the end of July to benefit from the aid from the start of the new school year.
  • You return your accommodation this summer and you return to it at the start of the new school year: in this case, you declare that you do not keep the accommodation but you do not change your address. The return to the premises will have to be reported so that the APL is paid again.
  • You change accommodation: you must declare your move and update your file with your new address in the "My Profile" section. You will be able to apply for a new APL from the signing of the new lease.

Warning

To benefit from the APL, you must occupy your home during at least 8 months over the course of a year. So you have to be away less than 4 months.

FYI

The APL only applies to your accommodation located in France.
