Chronology of the right to strike in France from 1791 to the present day

Conquered at the end of the XIX^e The right to strike is enshrined in the Preamble of the 1946 Constitution. However, two principles balance this right: continuity of public service and protection of the health and safety of persons and property. Thus, the legislature intervened to prohibit the right to strike for certain categories of civil servants, to restrict it by introducing a minimum service in certain sectors or to impose a procedure prior to its exercise in the public sector.
